This post, which has been shared by the Mt. Vernon workers’ compensation attorneys at The Disability Guys, will go over the history of the engine, the invention of the car, and auto body shops in the local area.
Who Invented The Engine?
There is some dispute over this, many historians agree that Jeronimo de Ayanz invented the first steam engine, even though it had no pistons or cylinders. He patented his design in 1606 and the engine was used to pump water out of mines.
Over the next several centuries, other inventors improved upon this design and then began to test using other materials to power the engines they created. In 1879, a German inventor named Karl Benz received a patent for a gasoline engine. He then built a three-wheel vehicle that was powered by this engine. Benz sold several versions of his “Motorwagen” and went on to produce a version with four wheels.
Benz wasn’t the only person trying to build a personal vehicle. Others in France, Germany, and the United States also created cars. Some of those inventors also crashed their cars.
Mr. Lambert’s Car v Hitching Post: Who Won?
In the U.S., a man named James William Lambert built a three-wheeled car that he was excited to share with friends. He took a test drive with a close friend and during that drive, he hit a tree root. Lambert lost control of the car and crashed it into a hitching post. The passengers weren’t hurt, but the car was seriously damaged.
At the time of the first car accident, Lambert didn’t have auto body shops to choose from. However, this isn’t the case today. Today, car owners have a plethora of options when they need a repair.
