While it may not receive the international acclaim of its big brother, New York City, the suburb of White Plains, NY has an impressive culinary scene. If you live in the suburbs of West Chester and you’re looking for a premium meal without trekking into the craziness of the big city, there are more than enough options here to suit palettes of all types. While our Westchester workers’ compensation lawyers enjoy a nice dining experience in NYC, we also love taking our families out in White Plains for quiet family dinners. Some of our favorite restaurants here include:

Lilly’s

Lilly’s specializes in tapas and small plates with traditional American and seafood dishes. The food here is always delectable, and they’ve also got the ambiance to match. When the weather is nice, we love sitting out on their beautiful back patio while enjoying delicious cuisine and premium cocktails. The service here is always attentive and fast, and they never fail to make you feel like an honored guest. Some of our favorite dishes at Lilly’s include:

  • Roasted butternut squash
  • Grilled octopus
  • Fig & arugula pizza
  • Margherita pizza
  • Seared salmon
  • Pan roasted branzino

Freebird Kitchen and Bar

Freebird Kitchen and Bar is a hot new bar and restaurant in the heart of White Plains. Since opening three months ago, the city has been buzzing about this delectable southern comfort food establishment. In our opinion, this is easily the best southern restaurant in Westchester and rivals many of the establishments in New York City. We especially love coming here during the brutal winter months, as a meal here can really warm your soul up and have you forgetting about the subzero temperatures – at least until you have to walk back to your car.

We’re big fans of the following dishes at Freebird:

  • Burnt ends chili
  • Bourbon braised short rib
  • Shrimp & grits
  • Pimento cheeseburger
  • Grilled skirt steak
  • Nashville-style hot chicken & waffles

MELT Sandwich Shop

This simple, order-at-the-counter style sandwich shop makes a great choice for lunch or a no-frills dinner. It’s set up similar to Subway or Chipotle, as you choose your roll, one of their many smokes and roasts, along with a variety of other fresh ingredients and combos. They also serve grilled pizza, salads, soups, and side dishes.

Some of the protein options here include:

  • Jerked chicken
  • BBQ pulled pork
  • Pan-seared shrimp
  • Black pepper pastrami
  • Grilled portabella mushroom

And a few of our favorite topping combos include:

  • The French Onion – Sauteed onions, gruyere cheese, au jus
  • The BBQ – Gorgonzola, tomatoes, bacon, Kansas City BBQ sauce
  • The Philly – Cheddar cheese sauce, sauteed onions
  • The Reuben – Swiss cheese, pickles, sauerkraut, thousand island dressing
  • The Cuban – Pickles, Swiss cheese, spicy dijon mustard

Mediterraneo White Plains

If you’re looking for a slightly upscale restaurant for a nice date night, celebratory dinner, or just as a treat for yourself and your family, Mediterraneo White Plains is one of our favorite choices. Like the name suggests, this is a nice wine bar and restaurant specializing in Mediterranean cuisine. We’re particularly fond of the following dishes at Mediterraneo:

  • Egg tagliatelle, filetto di pomodoro, veal meatballs, ricotta cheese
  • American Waygu beef and caramelized onion ravioli, marsala mushrooms, parmesan crisp
  • Spicy lobster spaghetti, roasted cherry tomatoes, baby arugula
