This historic museum house is located in the Yonkers neighborhood of Getty Square. It is recognized as the oldest standing house in Westchester County and was initially home to the Frederick Philipse family.

Built in 1682 by Dutch-born trader and merchant Frederick Philipse, the estate remains tall and encompasses around 52,000 acres of land all along the Hudson River overlooking Yonkers and Westchester County.

Philipse Manor operates as a museum full of interesting art, history, and sculptures. The organization also hosts a list of educational activities, social gatherings, and cultural groups for residents and visitors.

The Collection

The museum’s highlights include its 18th century, Georgian high-style architecture, Rococo paper mache ceilings from the 1750s, and an impressive array of 60 presidential painted portraits, including the six New York State Presidents.

Frederick Philipse had a love for culture, music, and art, which can be portrayed all throughout the home. Paintings from the Cochran Collection of American Portraiture can be seen on display and was showcases works of art from Charles Wilson Peale and John Trumbull.

Among all the pieces of work displayed, the Philipse Manor Hall Community Gallery features a variety of work created by local artists that continue to be on rotation as new artists emerge.
