The town of Chester is situated in the central region of Orange County in New York. It contains many communities such as Greycourt, Lake Hill Farms, Walton Park, and Glenmere Lake within its 16,128 acres. Black Meadow Creek flows throughout the community.
Dutch and English colonists were the first Europeans to settle in the community during the 1700s. The early economy was fueled by dairy products and continued to boom as the Erie Railroad was completed in 1841. Local farmers shipped their products into the city to fulfill the growing demands.

Located just off of Greycourt Avenue is the historic 1915 Erie Railroad Train Station. The first station was constructed in 1841, with its first passenger stop taking place on September 23, 1841. The last train made its stop in 1983, and the tracks were removed by the end of the following year. The station now serves as a museum and offers the local schools and groups tours. The historical society also holds its monthly meetings and annual fundraisers at the site.
