When Was The Modern Car Invented

Karl Benz lived in Germany and in 1886, received a patent for a three-wheel vehicle that he called the “Motorwagen”. By 1893, he had sold around 25 Motorwagens and had released a second model with four wheels.

Meanwhile, in the U.S. the Duryea brothers created the Duryea Motorwagon. Other inventors throughout the world began to tinker and built their own versions of the gasoline-powered car.

While it would be some time before the majority of Americans owned a personal vehicle, it didn’t take long for an American to have the first car accident.

James Lambert And The First Car Crash

Midtown Manhattan near workers' compensation law firm. James Lambert, who lived in Ohio City, was one of the inventors who tried to build their own vehicles. The first car that Lambert built was very unstable due to the design and when he hit a tree root while driving, the car spun out of control. Lambert and the car crashed into a hitching post.

Deciding that the car was unstable because of having only three wheels, Lambert built a four-wheeled car. This time, the engine caught on fire during a drive and the car was destroyed.

Thankfully, Lambert and his passengers survived both accidents.

Today car owners can choose from numerous locations to have their repairs made when an accident occurs.
