Most Americans are familiar with the brand name Mercedes Benz but not many know that the “Benz” part of the name comes from Karl Benz, who most enthusiasts recognize as the first man to create a model that ultimately became the modern car.
Karl Benz lived in Germany and in 1886, received a patent for a three-wheel vehicle that he called the “Motorwagen”. By 1893, he had sold around 25 Motorwagens and had released a second model with four wheels.
In the United States Of America, the Duryea brothers created the first gasoline powered car in the country, dubbing it the Duryea Motorwagon.
Although most homes did not have a car, the reality is that it was only natural that a crash would happen at some point. In Ohio City, Ohio, James William Lambert was driving his single cylinder gasoline powered car with a friend as a passenger. The road was uneven and one of the tires hit a large tree root. This caused Lambert to lose control and the car crashed into a nearby hitching post.
Both passengers survived, although the car was damaged.
Today, cars are much more powerful and can reach high speeds. When an accident occurs, this power results in a lot more damage than the first accidents. Car manufacturers soon realized that they could make repairs and even build new vehicles faster if they mass produced parts. It wasn’t long before individual mechanics opened their own auto body shops, creating competition and providing car owners with options.

There are several important things to consider when choosing an auto body shop:

- Does the auto body shop have good reviews online?
- How long as the auto body shop been open?
- Does your car need specialized repairs or parts?
- Will the mechanics answer any questions that you may have?
- Is a written estimate provided?
