A Peekskill sanitation worker suffered serious head injuries after he took a fall from a garbage truck this week. Police did not identify the worker but said the accident occurred after 10:00am on North Division Street.

Law enforcement does not believe that any traffic incidents resulted in the accident. They are also unsure if the garbage truck was in motion at the time of the accident. In addition to the victim, there were two additional city workers present on the truck at the time of the incident. The driver and a passenger were present and several bystanders rushed to the aid of the man after watching him fall backwards from the truck.

The victim was described as having suffered a serious head injury and has still been listed in critical condition at the Westchester Medical Center. While no identification was released, it was mentioned that the worker was young and there was hope for a recovery.

There was a similar incident which occurred in 2005 caused the death of a Ossining sanitation worker. John-Paul Rodrigues fell from a moving garbage truck and died after sustaining severe head injuries. Rodrigues was 24 at the time of the accident.
