History of Gallery
Pratt Institute was founded in 1887 by American industrialist Charles Pratt. Pratt’s goal was to create an affordable education system for both men and women to cause a transformational impact on society.
Early graduates at Pratt were architects, builders, dressmakers, and furniture manufacturers. Pratt’s engineering and design programs were facilitated by a liberal arts education system that gave students a complete and detailed understanding of the world they would work in. The approach remains a part of the curriculum for Pratt.

Today, through its defining legacy and innovative future, the Pratt Institute is shaping academic excellence in architecture, sculpture, design, information studies, and liberal arts and sciences.
The college has been a global pioneer in higher education with a world-renowned faculty of over 1,100 award-winners since the first class of 12 students gathered on Pratt’s Brooklyn campus in 1887.
The Institute is home to a range of impact-driven centers breaking innovation boundaries for topics ranging from urban growth, sustainable design, and robotics to data visualization.

Currently, the Pratt Manhattan Gallery, President’s Ofice Gallery, and The Rubelle and Norman Schafler Gallery are temporarily closed to the public. Visitors who do not want to wait until the galleries open again, have the opportunity to see a majority of the new and up and coming pieces of artwork on their social media accounts.
When the galleries do open up, they are free to the public for anyone who would love to visit.
