The neighborhood of Howell is located in Orange County, New York. It helps to make up the Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, Middletown metropolitan statistical area. History

The greater area was originally home to the Native American Munsee people. The Dutch began settlements in 1685, including just a handful of colonists. Led by the Laird of Monzievaird, David Toshach, and Major Patrick McGregor, Toshach’s brother in Law, a group of twenty-five Scottish families settled in the area along the Moodna Creek. Another group of German Palatine refugees settled in 1709. In 1712, a mixed group of both English and Dutch settlers came into the Goshen area.

The community is home to the 105-acre Amelia Acres Farm, located on NY-17A. This equestrian farm was founded in 1991. It offers the community a place to board your horse, take riding lessons or just ride a horse along the miles of trails around the farm.

In the southern region of the area is the 160-acre Brookfields Farm. This family-owned and operated farm has been practicing its humane farming methods of sustainability for over 100 years. They refrain from using antibiotics and growth hormones. Their main products include:

The neighborhood is home to many places of worship, including the Goshen Christian Reformed Church, located on NY-17A. The church was established in 1934 by a group of immigrants.
