Supplemental Security Income

The federal government offers Supplemental Security Income (SSI) to provide disability payments for those who may not have worked long enough to qualify them to receive Social Security disability benefits.

Both children and adults who are disabled or blind and adults who are 65 or older are eligible to receive SSI disability benefits. SSI benefits are for those who have limited income and assets. In some cases, a person may qualify to receive both Social Security disability benefits and SSI.
