Barclays Center opened in Brooklyn in 2012 and was long overdue. In a borough as bustling as Brooklyn, it only makes sense that there should be a world-class arena here. This arena is home to the Brooklyn Nets of the National Basketball Association, along with the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League. This means that there is a steady rotation of sporting events here during the late fall, winter, and spring. Additionally, Barclays Center hosts a variety of concerts, conventions, and other entertainment events. Our Brooklyn workers comp lawyers love taking part in the wide range of cultural experiences here, including:

Brooklyn Nets Basketball Games

Each season, the Brooklyn Nets play 41 home games at the Barclays Center. Formerly the New Jersey Nets, the franchise’s move to Brooklyn has been a long time coming. In a city known as the mecca of basketball, it only makes sense that Brooklyn got their own team. While the team hasn’t seen too much success during the Brooklyn era, we still enjoy going to games to cheer on the home team. We’re hopeful that eventually they’ll turn the corner and give Brooklynites something to cheer about.

The Barclays Center has also hosted the NBA Draft each year since 2013 and is set to host again in 2018. They also hosted NBA All-Star Weekend in 2015. Additionally, they host a variety of college basketball events each year, including the Barclays Center Classic, Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, and Legends Classic.

New York Islanders Hockey Games

The NHL season runs parallel to the NBA season, and the Islanders also play 41 games at the Barclays Center. This means that almost every night of the week from October through April, you can expect there to be a sporting event happening at the Barclays Center. Before hockey games, walls and glass panels are added to the perimeter of the court, and the plywood of the basketball court is removed to reveal an ice hockey rink underneath.

The Islanders have been playing in Brooklyn since the 2015 season, after spending the first four decades of the franchise in suburban Long Island. In that first season in Brooklyn, the Islanders won their first playoff series since 1993. Beginning in the 2018-19 season the team will be splitting their home games between the Barclays Center and their original home, the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island.
