The American Real Estate Company of Manhattan established the neighborhood in 1888 as one of the earliest planned communities in the New York metropolitan region. The centerpiece of the neighborhood was known as the Hendric Hudson Hotel that was created by the prominent architect of the Château Frontenac, Bruce Price.

Park Hill was also once the home on the Park Hill Incline, a funicular cable railway that made its way through Getty Square Branch from the New York and Putnam Railroad to Alta Avenue within the years of 1894 and 1937.
