Summer Planning Key to Job Stability

With summer just on the horizon, it can be tempting to call in sick to work even when you are perfectly healthy. But calling off for non-legitimate reasons can eventually jeopardize your job status with your present employer.

While there are many valid reasons to call of work during the summer including illnesses, broken bones, or even serious sunburns, taking a vacation without any time left can put you in the hot seat and potentially cost you your job.

It is in your best interest to understand clearly the requirements for earning vacation time and then plan to use that time wisely. Don’t use vacation days when you just don’t feel like going to work during the cold, winter months. Doing so may bring regret when the weather gets warmer.

Sick time is also something you should monitor. In addition to the summer illness that can bed workers, many summer time jobs or outdoor job tasks can subject workers to injuries while on the job. Working outside in the summer heat may bring about several medical situations that require extended time off for recovery. While you may be entitled to worker’s compensation benefits, you may still need your sick days to earn a proper income.

Don’t jeopardize your job because you want some summer fun. Instead, plan ahead and schedule time off using the proper protocol as directed by management. Not only will you be able to enjoy your time off guilt-free, you will also be able rely on your job security.
