The city of Beacon is situated in the southern section of Dutchess County, in the state of New York. The city takes up 3,123.2 acres and includes 89.6 acres of water, like Fishkill Creek. Early History

Francis Rombout and Gulian Verplanck, New York City merchant-fur traders, purchased the area from the Wappinger tribe in 1683. The Bretts operated a flour mill that became the producer of one-third of the state’s flour.
