Scotchtown
The hamlet is located within the Town of Walkill just east of Middletown. It is in the northern section of Orange County in the state of New York. It takes up 2,688 acres and has an elevation of 722 feet. Michigan Corners is located within the neighborhood at the intersection of NY Route 211 and Goshen Turnpike. The neighboring communities that share a border include Circleville, Mechanicstown, Washington Heights, Middletown, and Hamptonburgh. The main roadways that travel through the town include Silver Lake – Scotchtown Road, Ballard Road, NY Route 211, NY Route 17, and the Goshen Turnpike.
History
The town was named from the earliest Scottish settlers that included:

Development within the community included a store in 1803, followed by a wagon shop and a blacksmith.
Historical Landmark
Located in the historic section of the town at Alvaran Lane and Silver Lake – Scotchtown Road is the Scotchtown Presbyterian Church. The church was established in 1798 but not formally incorporated until 1801. The “light on the hill” church has offered the community a place to worship. With over 1.5 million members of the Presbyterian Church, it is the largest of the Presbyterian faith.
Travelers can find Michigan Corners in the southeast section of the town. Legend has it that a former landowner, Malcolm McLaughlin, became deep in debt, causing him to flee the area in 1825. When he returned, he reported that he had gone to Michigan. A local deli took the name of Michigan Corners but was replaced with Scotchtown Deli and Catering in 2007.
