Prevention of Osteoporosis is Possible

Osteoporosis is the loss of bone density over time that can eventually result in frequent broken or fractured bones. There are several reasons why people develop osteoporosis including a lack of exercise, a lupus diagnosis, or genetics. There are also other preventable reasons why osteoporosis develops.

Many people develop osteoporosis because they do not eat a proper diet filled with essential vitamins, calcium, and fresh foods. They may also be at a higher risk of osteoporosis due to overall unhealthy lifestyles.

Smoking can lead to osteoporosis. It can cause complications in the heart, lungs, and in the bones.  Smokers have been found to absorb less amounts of calcium from the foods and drinks they consume which leads to bone loss. Women that are smokers are at a much higher risk of developing osteoporosis especially those that go through an early menopause. Smoking can cause a woman to experience early menopause.

Another lifestyle choice that can lead to osteoporosis is alcohol consumption. Alcohol can have a bad effect on the bones of the body, especially when alcohol is consumed in large amounts and frequently. Osteoporosis often develops in heavy drinkers because of the additional factors including a poor diet and high rates of injuries from falls.
