A New York construction workers was fatally injured after falling through a floor in an Astoria apartment building. The worker subsequently hit his head on a steel beam after the fall which resulted in the injuries.

 

The 42-year old worker was performing construction work near 45th Street when he fell through a first floor hole. It is estimated he fell a total of 15 feet to the basemen where the steel beam was located. The construction site is under the direction of general contractor firm, Centex Builders.

 

The victim was rushed to the Mount Siani Hospital with serious injuries and was soon after pronounced dead. Work has since ceased at the job site pending an investigation by the Department of Buildings. OSHA is also expected to launch a full investigation into the matter.
